Holi in Bhaktapur is a vibrant blend of color, culture, and tradition that reflects the city’s deep-rooted heritage and community spirit.
In Bhaktapur, Holi—locally known as Fagu Purnima—is celebrated with unique customs that differ slightly from other parts of Nepal. The festival marks the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil, inspired by the legend of Prahlada and Holika.
Unlike the more chaotic celebrations seen elsewhere, Bhaktapur maintains a more cultural and community-oriented Holi. People gather in courtyards and squares, applying abir (colored powder) to each other as a sign of joy and respect. Traditional music, dancing, and local delicacies add to the festive atmosphere.
Children and youth still enjoy playful water fights and colors, but the celebration often feels more organized and respectful of heritage. Visitors can experience a balance of fun and tradition, making it especially attractive for tourists.

अन्य स्थानहरूमा देखिने केही अव्यवस्थित (chaotic) शैलीभन्दा फरक, भक्तपुरमा होली बढी सांस्कृतिक र सामुदायिक रूपमा मनाइन्छ। मानिसहरू आँगन र चौकहरूमा भेला भएर एकअर्कालाई अबिर (रङ्गीन धुलो) लगाउँदै खुशी र सम्मान व्यक्त गर्छन्। परम्परागत संगीत, नृत्य र स्थानीय परिकारहरूले उत्सवको माहोललाई अझ रमाइलो बनाउँछन्।
बालबालिका र युवाहरूले पानी र रङसँग खेल्दै रमाइलो गरे पनि, समग्र रूपमा यो पर्व व्यवस्थित र परम्पराप्रति सम्मानजनक ढंगले मनाइन्छ। यहाँ आउने आगन्तुकहरूले रमाइलो र परम्पराको सन्तुलित अनुभव गर्न पाउँछन्, जसले यसलाई पर्यटकहरूका लागि अझ आकर्षक बनाउँछ।
